Camp fYrefly Saskatchewan
Betty-Ann is a big believer in the values of diversity and acceptance, and that includes the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community. To this end, she became a donor to Camp fYrefly, Canada's largest, volunteer-based, summer leadership retreat for sexual minority and gender variant youth. Founded in 2004, the camp is designed to help youths develop the leadership skills and resiliency necessary for them to become change agents in their schools, families, and communities. Betty-Ann is proud to be an early supporter of the program after being touched by the stories of previously-alienated youths coming to the camp and realizing they are not alone.
In August 2009, the inaugural Camp fYrefly-Saskatchewan was held in Saskatoon, bolstered by the generosity of countless volunteers, sponsors, donors, organizers, community leaders. Betty-Ann is proud to be one of many contributors that helped make this camp possible, and she would encourage her like-minded readers to show their support to these brave youths.
