BETTY-ANN HEGGIE PLACES IN TOP 25 IN 2010 "HOT MOMMAS PROJECT" CASE STUDY COMPETITION
Virtual Mentor and Role Model to Women Receives Recognition
Saskatoon, SK (March 31, 2010) - Betty-Ann Heggie, a member of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women Hall of Fame, placed among the top 25 in the 2010 Case Study Competition for "The Hot Mommas Project." Her case study, Striking a Good Balance includes empowering tips and advice to help women achieve balanced Gender Physics, a concept she originated. Ms. Heggie is one of two Canadians to be recognized by the Hot Mommas Project.
She explains, "For women, being successful in the corporate world isn't easy, which is why I focused my case study on how to balance the 'go-get-'em' masculine energy with the best of cooperative feminine energy. Additionally, I discussed finding balance in our personal and professional lives - a struggle facing today's working women. I hope this case study empowers women, because the only thing better than getting encouragement is giving encouragement."
Betty-Ann, a speaker, author, and mentor, is a former senior executive with Potashcorp who aims to be a real-life role model both in life and in business. With 26 years of corporate experience in the male-dominated fertilizer industry, she learned how men and women approach situations differently. Through her case study, she offers other women a glimpse into that experience, hoping they will benefit from it and rise to the top.
Betty-Ann's original concept of Gender Physics is a central element of the case study. "Good Gender Physics" occurs when there is a balance between masculine and feminine energy in one's personal or professional life. She believes that everyone has an abundance of one energy or the other, often dictated by one's actual gender - that is, men will usually have an abundance of masculine energy and women will have more feminine energy. Masculine energy is defined by aggressive, action-oriented behaviors whereas feminine energy is nurturing and more reflective. Betty-Ann believes that individuals, groups, and corporations can all find good Gender Physics by developing the opposite energy within themselves.
The Hot Mommas Project is an independent venture at the George Washington University School of Business. The initiative produces "role models on paper." It is included in the mission of the GWSB Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence. A Harvard Business School graduate and case study author, Kathy Forman Frey, founded the project. Today, the Hot Mommas Project is the world's largest women's case study library.
In 2009, Betty-Ann Heggie won the "Women Helping Women" award at the 6th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business. Betty-Ann was the presenting sponsor of The International Alliance for Women's "World of Difference" Awards last year, honoring the extraordinary achievements of women worldwide that have made a difference in the economic empowerment of other women. Additionally, committing to her passion for mentorship, she endowed the Edwards School of Business at her alma mater, the University of Saskatchewan, to develop the "Womentorship" program. The program supports the advancement of women into executive positions through mentoring relationships. Betty-Ann is enabling a new generation of women to rise to the top of the corporate world.
