BETTY-ANN HEGGIE WINS "WOMEN HELPING WOMEN" AWARD AT 6th ANNUAL STEVIE AWARDS FOR WOMEN IN BUSINESS

One of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women Wins Big at the Stevies

NEW YORK, NY (November 18, 2009) - Betty-Ann Heggie, a member of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women Hall of Fame, won the "Women Helping Women" award at the 6th Annual Stevie Awards recognizing women in business at an event in New York City last Friday, November 13. She was also recognized as a finalist in the category "Mentor of the Year."

"I am so grateful for this recognition," commented Betty-Ann Heggie on her win. "This is an extraordinary honor, and I would like to dedicate this award to the women around the world who dedicate themselves to improving the lot of their sister women. And I would like to remind everyone that this isn't like a medal you win at the end of a race - women still have a long way to go, and we can get there by helping each other out."

Betty-Ann Heggie, now a corporate speaker who talks to audiences about balancing masculine and feminine energy in their lives, earned her award due to her efforts to advance the cause of women around the world. Betty-Ann is a big believer in the value of helping women through mentorship. In 2009, she donated money to the Edwards School of Business at her alma mater, the University of Saskatchewan, to develop the "Womentorship" program to support the advancement of women into executive leadership positions through mentoring relationships. This unique new program will facilitate mentoring, coaching, professional development, networking, and scholarship opportunities. Through this program, Betty-Ann Heggie is enabling a new generation of women to take the helm and achieve new levels of professional success.

Betty-Ann has made other efforts to support those women who make it their business to help women. She was this year's presenting sponsor of The International Alliance for Women's "World of Difference" Awards, honoring the extraordinary achievements of women throughout the world who have made a difference in the economic empowerment of other women. She has also used her blog and twice-monthly newsletter to highlight the accomplishments of these unsung heroines.

Yet another example of her efforts is her involvement in the Princess Shop, which recycles prom dresses to disadvantaged young girls. After meeting the program's founder, Betty-Ann was moved to help her. She set up a fundraiser in her home, ultimately getting 60 women to donate money, shoes, and dresses to the program; some even offered pro bono consulting and accounting services. It was a terrific example of women getting together to support their own and make a difference.

The Stevie Awards for Women in Business were created to honor and generate public recognition of the achievements and positive contributions of organizations and business people worldwide. Winners were announced at the Marriott Marquis hotel in New York City on Friday, November 13. The presentations were broadcast live on radio in the US by the Business TalkRadio Network.

More than 1,100 entries were submitted this year for consideration in 54 categories, and business professionals worldwide chose finalists during preliminary judging. Members of the Awards' Board of Distinguished Judges & Advisors and their staffs selected the Stevie Award winners during final judging.
